Throughout times people have told stories and tales. At first these tales were told orally. Oral tradition, or oral lore as it may be known, is a form of human communication wherein knowledge and cultural material is received, preserved and transmitted orally from one generation to another. This transmission is through speech or song and may include folktales and fairy tales. They were passed on from father to son or mother to daughter. One generation after another could enjoy these tales. These stories that we heard as small children, were usually folktales and fairy stories. Tales that our parents and their parents heard when they were young, passed down through the generations. They were stories of hopes and dreams, of meetings with giants, wicked witches and goblins that inflict harm. Or kind fairies and dragons who restore peace and order. But not all these stories were faithfully reproduced. Some, for one reason or another, were changed and one could even say twisted. Was it to protect the guilty? Unfortunately the reasons are lost and we may never find out. It was only by being diligent and refusing to give up the pursuit of truth that I stumbled on these few accounts of what really happened. I can only hope that you the reader can understand the agony these persons, who were falsely portrayed, suffered in their lifetime. I can only present the truth here and let you be the judge.

What Treasures Are Hidden in the Enchanted Woods? More than just bedtime traditions, more than simple children’s literature, the most enduring stories are echoes of the greatest of all stories, the Gospel. God of the Fairy Tale is a collection of spiritual reflections on the truths found in classic fairy tales, truths that point us to the ultimate Truth about God, redemption, and ourselves. Delving into twenty classic folk and fairy tales, God of the Fairy Tale leads us into the mystical landscape of elves, goblins, and talking animals to reveal the jewels of truth that hide inside these most simple of stories. Through the fables of Snow White, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and many others, we discover a perspective not unlike that of the Bible–a world of people trying to be something more, questing to do good in a realm fraught with evil, where a turn of the tables leaves the strong defeated and the weak victorious. Each tale is presented along with a meditation on the spiritual and theological themes present. God of the Fairy Tale will warm your heart with a world of characters, creatures, and circumstances that spin an entertaining yarn and affirm the most essential Christian worldviews. This book investigates Basile’s contribution to the establishment of fairytales as a literary genre; the focus is on his masterpiece Lo cunto de li Cunti. The volume examines Basile’s work’s debt to tradition and its influence on posterity, while also studying the author’s unique use of metaphors in the rich Neapolitan dialect. As this study reveals, metaphors in Lo cunto de li cunti are not used simply as a mean of embellishment; rather they are employed as a way to inform the reader of the rich folkloric tradition of Naples during the baroque times, as well as of Basile’s discontent with the socio-political situation of his times. The use of metaphors is so pervasive that one could argue that the book is itself a metaphor through which Basile conveys his ideals and his utopia of a liberated Naples and a more just society; as well as the importance of the Neapolitan dialect and its linguistic registers. Furthermore, the book also proposes a new interpretation of the female characters of the tales and it instigates a discussion on gender roles in both modern and past societies.

This volume contains twenty-four such tales collected from around Wales by P. H. Emerson whilst living in Anglesea during the winter 1891-2. In most cases he amended them as little as possible, preferring to record the stories as told, staying true to the original, so that the written story would enchant readers as though it were being presented in the vernacular. Why do we call such a collection Fairy Tales? Well, when last did you hear a child say 'One more folk tale please' or 'Another nursery tale, please, grandma'? Fairy tales are stories in which occurs something 'fairy', something extraordinary--fairies, giants, dwarfs, speaking animals, or the remarkable stupidity of some of the characters. Stories of fairy interaction with humans - where the kind and thoughtful are blessed and the thoughtless and spiteful are punished. So take some time out and travel back to a period before television and radio, a time when families would gather around a crackling and spitting hearth and granddad or grandma or uncle or auntie would delight and captivate the gathering with stories passed on to them from their parents and grandparents from time immemorial. A proportion of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated towards the education of the underprivileged in Wales. A book in the "Myths, Legends and Folk Tales from Around the World" series.
